Vernon Watkins letters to Philip Larkin, 1964-1991.

Collection contains twelve letters from Vernon Watkins to Philip Larkin, generally concerning poets and poetry, and the publication of the 1966 edition of Larkin's book, The North Ship. Included is a copy of a letter of recommendation for Watkins written by Larkin for a Fulbright scholarship. Also included are two letters from the executors of Philip Larkin's will to Watkin's widow, Gwen Watkins, regarding the disposition of the letters after Larkin's death.

Vernon Phillips Watkins was born in Wales, and lived nearly his entire life near Swansea. He had written poetry since his youth, and attended Cambridge University for one year before leaving, ultimately taking a job with Lloyd's bank as a clerk.
